Grove City tops Waynesburg, 4-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four different Grove City players scored goals Wednesday afternoon, helping the host Wolverines earn a 4-0 victory over Waynesburg in a Presidents' Athletic Conference women's soccer match at College Field. Grove City is now 10-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Grove City grabbed to a 2-0 lead by scoring twice in the first 33 minutes. Freshman Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) broke a scoreless tie at 10:52 with her seventh goal of the season. Sophomore Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) assisted Ostlund's goal.

Bender recorded her second assist of the afternoon at the 32:03 mark as sophomore Jessica Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) scored her third goal of 2007. Bender leads the team with five assists this season.

Junior Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) extended Grove City's lead to 3-0 in the second half by scoring her seventh goal of the year at 54:43. Sophomore Lauren Woodring (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) assisted Wild's goal. Junior Esther Harclerode (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez) capped the scoring at 76:31 with her first goal of the season. Sophomore Kristen Hebel (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) supplied the assist.

Junior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) recorded her third straight shutout by stopping four shots. Preston, this week's PAC Defensive Player of the Week and ECAC South Defensive Player of the Week, is now 6-0-1 with an 0.26 goals-against average this year. Overall, it is Grove City's seventh shutout of the season.

Grove City out-shot Waynesburg (5-5-1, 1-1), 29-7. Grove City also had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Wolverines will host Saint Vincent Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at College Field.
