Grove City blanks W&J
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team posted its ninth shutout of the 2007 season Wednesday afternoon as the host Wolverines earned a 2-0 victory over Washington & Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at College Field.
Grove City (13-1-1, 4-1 PAC) seized a 1-0 lead at 20:56 as sophomore forward Lauren Woodring (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored her fifth goal of the season. Junior Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) assisted Woodring.
The Wolverines added an unassisted insurance goal at 88:44 as freshman Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) registered her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped three shots in the first half and improved to 9-1-1 with the win. Junior Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) came on in the second half and made one save. Grove City out-shot W&J, 19-9, including a 10-1 margin in the second half.
Grove City will wrap up the home portion of the regular season schedule Saturday against archrival Westminster at 1 p.m.
