Grove City blanks Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Sophomore forwards Lauren Woodring (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) both scored in the second half Tuesday night, helping Grove City (14-2-1) earn a 2-0 victory at Geneva in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Merriman Soccer Complex.

Woodring scored her sixth goal of the season at 50:34, giving Grove City a 1-0 lead. She now has two game-winning goals in the last week. Peck then scored an insurance goal at 77:56 after an assist from freshman Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins). It is Peck's fourth goal of the season.

Junior goalkeepers Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) combined for the Wolverines' 10th shutout this season. Preston stopped three shots in the first half while Pragel had a pair of saves in the second half. Grove City owned a 22-6 shot edge over Geneva (2-14-1), including a 12-2 advantage in the second half.

The teams had not met since 2000. The all-time series is now tied 4-4. Geneva is playing a full PAC schedule this year but the Golden Tornadoes' matches do not count in the conference standings due to Geneva's provisional NCAA Division III status.

Grove City will wrap up the regular season Saturday afternoon at Thiel at 3 p.m.
