Grove City improves to 2-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 home win over Mount Saint Joseph at College Field. The win gives Grove City the team title in the 2008 Grove City-Westminster Labor Day Shootout.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) scored twice in the first half to give the Wolverines a 2-0 halftime lead. Ostlund scored at 7:29 after receiving an assist from junior forward Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis). Ostlund then scored her fourth goal of the weekend at 18:14 with a blast from approximately 25 yards out.

Mount Saint Joseph halved the lead at 84:38 on a goal from Beth Schuermann. The Lions out-shot Grove City, 20-14.

Grove City goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped 11 shots to earn her second win of the year.

Ostlund earned the Tournament's Offensive Most Valuable Player award while junior Courtney Sicher (Moneta, Va./Franklin County) earned Defensive MVP honors. Yang, Pragel, senior Kristin Colley (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) and senior Laura Shipley (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's) all earned All-Tournament recognition.

Grove City is 2-0 for the third straight season. The Wolverines return to action Friday, September 5 at Fredonia State.
