Wolverines blank Gators
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior midfielder Laura Shipley (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's) blasted in a penalty kick at the 61:44 mark, helping vault Grove City to a 1-0 victory over Allegheny (0-4-1) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at College Field.
Shipley's penalty kick came after an Allegheny foul inside the box. It is her first goal of the 2008 season and the first penalty kick goal of her career.
Senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped nine shots -- including seven in the second half -- to record Grove City's first shutout of the season. Allegheny out-shot Grove City, 24-13.
It is Grove City's second straight shutout of Allegheny. The teams battled to a 0-0 draw September 12, 2007 in Meadville. Grove City has won seven straight home matches against non-conference foes in regular season play.
The Wolverines (3-2) will visit La Roche Saturday at 1 p.m.
