Wolverines, JCU battle to draw
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team is 3-3-1 overall after battling to a 1-1, double-overtime draw with visiting John Carroll (6-1-1) Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field.
Following a scoreless first half, Grove City grabbed a quick 1-0 lead lead in the second period as senior Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) scored 51 seconds into the half. Junior Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) assisted the goal.
John Carroll tied the match at 87:41 as Betsy Haigh scored the equalizer. Rachel Grdina provided the assist.
John Carroll owned a 24-20 shot edge for the match, including an 8-4 advantage in the 20 minutes of overtime. For Grove City, senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped 12 shots. Michelle Zrebiec stopped 11 shots in goal for John Carroll.
It is the first-ever tie between the two programs. John Carroll owns a 6-2-1 series edge. Grove City had not played an overtime match since a 0-0 draw at Allegheny September 12, 2007, a span of 16 games.
Grove City will visit Baldwin-Wallace Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
