Grove City blanks La Roche

PITTSBURGH -- Senior forward Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) and freshman midfielder Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) both scored first-half goals to help lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 3-0 win at La Roche in non-conference action Monday afternoon.

Junior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) added a goal in the second half for the Wolverines, who are now 5-5-2 overall.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead at 21:27 as Wild scored her fifth goal of the season, unassisted. Hurley doubled the lead at 43:54 after receiving an assist from senior midfielder Laura Shipley (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's). It is Hurley's second goal in as many matches.

Yang closed the scoring at 70:39 by scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Sophomore Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) assisted Yang's goal.

Senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) picked up the Wolverines' third shutout of 2008 by making four saves. La Roche (7-5-1) out-shot Grove City, 10-9.

Grove City will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday afternoon against visiting Bethany. The match begins at 4 p.m.
