Wolverines blank Bethany, 6-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) scored two goals and assisted on a third while the Grove City defense recorded its third straight shutout as the host Wolverines earned a 6-0 win over Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference women's soccer match at College Field Wednesday afternoon. Grove City is now 2-0 in the PAC and 6-5-2 overall.

The Wolverines grabbed the less than seven minutes into the match as sophomore Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) headed in her fifth goal of the season at 6:40. Peck assisted on the goal, giving her a team-high three assists in 2008. Less than five minutes later, Peck doubled Grove City's lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 14:15.

Grove City sealed the win with two goals in a 55-second span during the second half. Senior Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) recorded an unassisted score at 54:48. Peck then scored her second goal of the afternoon at 55:43, following a Wild assist.

Junior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) extended the lead to 5-0 at 70:10 with an unassisted goal. It is Yang's team-leading seventh goal of the season. Freshman Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) capped the scoring at the 79:02 mark with her third goal of the year. Hurley has scored in each of Grove City's last three matches.

Senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) earned the win in goal after stopping three shots in 73 minutes, 55 seconds of action. Freshman Nikki Spina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) preserved the shutout by making one save over the final 16:05.

Grove City out-shot the Bison, 23-7. The Wolverines also had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Grove City will visit Waynesburg Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in PAC action.
