Grove City rolls past Westminster, 3-1

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team scored three goals in the final 14 minutes Wednesday night in earning a 3-1 victory over host Westminster in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Harold Burry Stadium. Grove City is now 10-7-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

Grove City forged a 1-1 tie at 76:18 as Westminster (13-3-2, 4-1-1 PAC) scored an "own goal". The goal came after Grove City senior defender Sara Griffin (Marilla, N.Y./Nardin Academy) served a free kick into the goal area and the ball deflected off a Westminster defender into the goal.

Two minutes later, from nearly the same spot 25 yards from the goal, Griffin scored her first goal of the season by depositing a free kick into the upper left corner of the goal at 78:16. It is Griffin's first career game-winning goal.

The Wolverines then sealed the win at 88:47 as sophomore midfielder Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) scored her seventh goal of the season.

Westminster took a 1-0 lead at 9:43 as Danielle Struble scored off an assist from Samantha Killmeyer. Westminster out-shot Grove City 8-5 in the first half. However, the Wolverines limited Westminster to just three second-half shots as Grove City finished with a 13-11 edge in shots for the match. Grove City also owned a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) recorded four first-half saves to earn the win for Grove City. Westminster did not have a shot on goal in the second half.

The victory clinches a berth in next week's PAC Championship Tournament for Grove City. Grove City will conclude the regular season Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against visiting Geneva.
