Wolverines blank Geneva, 1-0
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team recorded its eighth shutout of 2008 Saturday afternoon as the host Wolverines earned a 1-0 win over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Geneva on Senior Day at College Field. Grove City concludes the regular season with an 11-7-2 overall record.
Grove City scored the lone goal of the match just 98 seconds into the match as senior forward Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) tallied her ninth goal of the season. Junior Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) assisted Wild's goal.
Grove City out-shot Geneva (8-4-5), 28-12. The Wolverines owned a 14-6 edge in each half. Grove City also had seven corner kicks while Geneva had two.
Senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped five shots to earn her 28th career win for Grove City. She now has a 1.10 goals-against average for the season.
Prior to the match, Grove City honored seniors Kristin Colley (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford), Sara Griffin (Marilla, N.Y./Nardin Academy), Trisha Griffith (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown), Esther Harclerode (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez), Anne Koller (Titusville, Pa./Titusville), Pragel, Laura Shipley (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's) and Wild as part of Senior Day festivities.
Grove City will play in a PAC Championship Tournament semifinal match Wednesday afternoon.
