Saints top Grove City
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to top-seeded Thomas More Wednesday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament semifinal match at Bank of Kentucky Field.
Thomas More will host Washington & Jefferson Saturday in the championship match. Grove City, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will await a possible Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship Tournament invitation.
Thomas More (14-6) took a 1-0 lead at 35:53 on a goal by Lauren Wietmarschen. The Saints extended the lead to 2-0 at 74:19 as Taylor Stoll scored off a Wietmarschen corner kick.
In goal, senior Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped six shots for Grove City (11-8-2). Thomas More out-shot the Wolverines, 24-7. Thomas More also had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Thomas More earned the top seed in the tournament with a 6-1 league record. Grove City landed as the No. 4 seed after going 5-2. Westminster and W&J each went 5-1-1 in conference play. W&J defeated Westminster Wednesday in double-overtime, 1-0.
