Wolverines fall on road
ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team fell to 2-5-3 overall Thursday night with a 6-3 setback at Penn State Altoona in non-conference action.
Penn State Altoona (8-2-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the match on goals by Alyssa Robinson and Helena Tinnyon. Grove City cut the lead in half at 14:19 on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins).
However, Altoona extended its lead to 4-1 by halftime as Emily Reimold and Meredith Barcia both scored.
Grove City closed to within 4-2 just 71 seconds into the second half as senior Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) scored off an assist from sophomore Cara Colley (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford).
Penn State Altoona pushed the lead to 5-2 at 61:33 on a Reimold goal but Grove City answered at 81:00 as senior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) scored. Sophomore Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) assisted Yang's goal.
Reimold closed the scoring at 89:18 with her third goal of the night for Penn State Altoona. Tinnyon had four assists.
Penn State Altoona outshot Grove City 13-10. The Lions also owned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped one shot in the first half for Grove City while freshman Keri Ketcham (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) had one save in the second half.
Grove City will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference Monday afternoon at Thiel.
