Wolverines move to 3-0 in PAC
BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 5-5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over host Bethany in a PAC clash at Bison Stadium. It is Grove City's third consecutive victory overall.
Sophomore Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) recorded her first career game-winning goal at the 78:52 mark to break a 2-2 tie. Senior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) assisted Osterhouse's goal.
Grove City seized a 1-0 lead at 10:21 as freshman Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) scored her fourth goal of 2009. Senior Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) supplied the assist.
Bethany (6-6-2, 0-2 PAC) knotted the match on a goal from Cassie Spalding at 20:43 but Yang broke the tie at 37:34 as she scored off a Peck corner kick. Yang now has four goals this season.
Spalding scored on a header at 68:59 to forge a 2-2 tie before Osterhouse's third career goal gave Grove City the lead for good.
Grove City outshot Bethany 22-11, including a 14-4 differential in the second half. The Wolverines also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Keri Ketcham (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) and senior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) each played 45 minutes in goal. Ketcham played the first half and made four saves while Preston had three saves in the second half. Preston earned the win.
Grove City is now 16-6 in October over the past three seasons. The Wolverines will host Waynesburg Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in conference action at College Field.
