Grove City tops Waynesburg
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three different players scored goals Saturday afternoon to lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 3-0 home win over Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field. Grove City has won four straight matches overall and remains atop the PAC record with a 4-0 conference mark.
Senior Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) put Grove City (6-5-3 overall) ahead at the 7:54 mark of the first half with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Junior Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) assisted Peck's goal.
Grove City doubled the lead to 2-0 at 31:08 as senior Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) scored an unassisted goal. It is her second score of the year.
Peck and Ostlund combined on the Wolverines' third goal of the afternoon at 50:59. This time, Ostlund scored her fourth goal of 2009. Peck assisted on the goal, her fourth assist of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and freshman Keri Ketcham (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) combined on the shutout. Preston played 73 minutes in goal while Ketcham played the final 17 minutes. It is Grove City's fourth shutout of the season.
Grove City outshot Waynesburg 32-1. The Wolverines also had a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
Grove City will host Saint Vincent Wednesday at 3 p.m.
