Wolverines extend win streak to 5

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Six Grove City College players scored goals Wednesday afternoon to lift the Wolverines to a 6-0 victory over visiting Saint Vincent at College Field.

Senior Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), sophomore Cara Colley (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford), sophomore Arielle Goyzueta (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen), junior Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), senior Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) and freshman Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) all scored as Grove City captured its fifth consecutive win.

Ostlund scored her fifth goal of 2009 at 10:23 after receiving assists from Bender and Rieman. Bender then doubled the lead at 20:51 with her third goal of the season. Ostlund assisted Bender's goal.

Goyzueta closed the first half with an unassisted score at 43:24. It is her third goal of the season.

Peck pushed Grove City's lead to 4-0 at 51:00 with her team-leading eighth goal. Ostlund assisted the score. Rieman scored Grove City's fifth goal of the match at 63:19 after collecting a deflected free kick in the box. Rieman now has five goals this year.

Colley capped the scoring at 70:11 with her first goal of the season.

Grove City (7-5-3) owned a 33-5 edge in shots. The Wolverines also doubled up Saint Vincent (3-13) in corner kicks, 4-2.

Freshman goalkeeper Keri Ketcham (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) and senior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) combined for the shutout. Ketcham played the first half and improved to 3-1-2. Preston stopped three shots in the second half to preserve the shutout. Grove City now has five shutouts this year.

Saint Vincent is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference but is a provisional member of NCAA Division III. Thus, Wednesday's match does not count in the conference standings.

Grove City (4-0 PAC) will visit conference co-leader Thomas More Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
