Wolverines blank Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Memorial Field. It is Grove City's eighth consecutive victory. Grove City (10-5-3 overall) also finished the conference schedule with a 7-0 mark.
The Wolverines grabbed a 1-0 lead just 1:49 into the match as sophomore Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) scored off a rebound. It is her second goal of the season.
Grove City pushed the lead to 2-0 at 42:25 as senior forward Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) headed in her 10th goal of the season. Senior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) assisted Peck's goal.
Grove City sealed the win at 69:25 as sophomore Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored her second goal of the season. Senior Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) supplied the assist.
In goal, senior Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped five shots -- all in the second half -- to preserve Grove City's eighth shutout of the season.
Grove City out-shot Westminster 16-8. Westminster (13-6-1, 4-3 PAC) owned a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Grove City has home-field advantage throughout next week's PAC Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will host Westminster Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in a semifinal match.
