Wolverines fall to W&J
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon in the championship match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament at College Field. W&J, the No. 3 seed, advances to the NCAA Championship Tournament as conference champion.
W&J (12-6-2) broke a scoreless tie at the 59:12 mark as Chrissy Marcius scored an unassisted goal.
Grove City (11-6-3) outshot W&J 16-9 in the match. The Wolverines also owned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped four shots for Grove City. W&J goalkeeper Stephanie Saussol had eight saves.
Grove City won the regular-season meeting September 26, 3-2, at College Field. The Wolverines entered the match on a nine-match win streak. Grove City did not allow a goal in 620 minutes prior to Marcius' score.
The Wolverines will await a potential Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship Tournament invitation.
