Grove City tops Oberlin, 3-0
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 this season by earning a 3-0 victory over visiting Oberlin Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field. The Wolverines have now won 10 consecutive regular season matches.
Grove City broke the match open with three second-half goals. The Wolverines took the lead 89 seconds into the second half as freshman midfielder Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) scored her first collegiate goal.
Senior midfielder Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) then scored twice in an eight-minute span to help sew up the victory. Ostlund scored at 51:21 and then added her third goal of the season at the 59:50 mark.
Grove City outshot Oberlin (1-2) 25-6, including a 16-0 edge in the first half.
In goal, freshman Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word Academy) earned her second straight shutout by making five saves. She stopped a penalty kick in the 89th minute to preserve the shutout.
The Wolverines own a scoreless streak of 651 minutes in regular-season play. Grove City had not played Oberlin since 1998.
Grove City will visit John Carroll next Friday, September 10 in non-conference action.
