Wolverines storm past Baldwin-Wallace
BEREA, Ohio -- Junior midfielder Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) scored a pair of goals Saturday afternoon to help lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over host Baldwin-Wallace in non-conference action at George Finnie Stadium.
Seniors Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) and Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) also scored for the Wolverines, who are now 3-3 overall.
Grove City broke a scoreless tie at the 26:51 mark when Hurley scored her third goal of 2010. Freshman Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) assisted Hurley's goal.
Baldwin-Wallace (4-4) forged a 1-1 tie with just 26 seconds left in the first half as Angie Wigton scored her second goal of the season. Grove City answered quickly in the second half, though, as Yang scored on a rebound at 48:56.
Ostlund extended Grove City's advantage to 3-1 at 55:42 by scoring on a penalty kick. Hurley then closed the scoring with her second goal of the match at 61:11. Stevens again recorded the assist.
Grove City outshot B-W 22-14, including a 13-4 edge in the second half. Grove City had three corner kicks, compared to two for Baldwin-Wallace. Freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) tallied seven saves for Grove City. Five of Yost's saves came in the first half.
Tina Mathur stopped nine shots for Baldwin-Wallace.
Grove City returns to action against visiting Penn State Behrend. The non-conference match begins at 4 p.m.
