Grove City rolls Raiders, 4-0
ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Senior forward Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) scored twice in the first half and sophomore forward Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) added a pair of second-half goals Thursday night to help lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over host Mount Union (2-5-2) in non-conference action at Mount Union Stadium. It is Grove City's third consecutive victory.
Yang broke a scoreless tie at the 11:14 mark by scoring her sixth goal of the season. Freshman Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) assisted Yang's goal.
The lead grew to 2-0 at 26:28 when Yang recorded an unassisted goal. Yang now has a team-high seven goals on the season, including five this week.
Grove City (5-3) then broke the match open in the second half as Rieman scored twice in a seven-minute span. She scored her first goal of the night at 54:06 after receiving a feed from freshman Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley). Rieman then closed the scoring at 60:56. Senior Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) supplied the assist on Rieman's second goal.
Grove City outshot the Purple Raiders 25-9, including a 16-5 margin in the second half. The Wolverines also had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped four shots to pick up the shutout win. Yost now has four shutouts this year.
Grove City has won its last three matches by a combined score of 11-1. Yang posted a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Penn State Behrend Tuesday afternoon. Stevens leads the team with five assists.
The Wolverines will visit Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference play.
