Grove City falls in overtime

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision in double overtime to host Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night in non-conference action. Carnegie Mellon (6-3) earned the win at 101:36 on a tie-breaking goal by Alex Venegas.

Junior forward Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) scored twice in the second half for Grove City, accounting for the Wolverine scoring. Hurley snapped a scoreless tie by scoring an unassisted goal at 47:56. Hurley scored from approximately 30 yards out.

CMU tied the match 1-1 on Elsa Wu's header at 66:29. Less than seven minutes later, Cecilia Zischkau scored her first goal of 2010 to give Carnegie Mellon a 2-1 lead at 73:04.

Hurley then pulled Grove City (5-4) into a 2-2 tie with her eighth goal of the season at 76:11.

Carnegie Mellon owned a 30-12 advantage in shots, including 4-0 in overtime. CMU also held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

For Grove City, freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word Academy) recorded a dozen saves.

Carnegie Mellon won last year's meeting at Grove City in overtime by a 3-2 score.

The Wolverines open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. The match begins at 3 p.m.
