W&J tops Grove City
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 setback against host Washington & Jefferson at Alexandre Stadium.
Grove City (5-5, 0-1 PAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes and 44 seconds into the match as freshman Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) scored her second goal of the season. Senior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) assisted Stevens' score.
W&J (6-4, 1-0) forged a 1-1 tie at the 35:28 mark on Chrissy Marcius' unassisted goal. The Presidents then took the lead 26 seconds into the second half on a goal from Holly Shipley.
W&J closed the scoring at 88:17 when Marcius scored her second goal of the day.
W&J owned a 10-7 edge in shots. Both teams had two corner kicks. For Grove City, freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped five shots.
Grove City returns home Wednesday to face Westminster at 4 p.m. in conference play. Four of the Wolverines' last five matches have been on the road.
