Grove City thumps Geneva

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored a pair of goals while senior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) added a goal and an assist to help lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over visiting Geneva (9-2-3) Friday afternoon in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference foes at College Field.

Freshmen Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) also scored for the Wolverines (7-5), who are now 5-1 at home this year.

Osterhouse broke a scoreless tie at the 40:05 mark with her second goal of the season. Freshman Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) supplied the assist, her team-leading sixth assist of the season.

Caissey doubled the lead at 49:12 with her first collegiate goal. The goal came off Yang's corner kick.

Yang then pushed the lead to 3-0 at 55:29 by scoring her eighth goal of the season. Sophomore Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) assisted Yang's goal.

The Wolverines then sewed up the win with two goals in an 89-second span. Bishop scored her fourth goal of the season at 76:26 and Osterhouse added an unassisted goal at 77:55. Freshman Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) assisted Bishop's goal.

Grove City owned a 27-7 edge in shots and a 14-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Wolverines had 11 corners in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped five saves to notch her sixth shutout of the season. Her goals-against average is now 0.99.

Friday's match does not count in the conference standings due to Geneva's provisional status in NCAA Division III. Grove City returns to action Wednesday against Thiel at 4 p.m. in conference play.
