Grove City stops Bethany, 4-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two early goals helped lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 4-1 home victory over Bethany Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field.

The Wolverines (9-5, 3-1 PAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead just 1:39 into the match when senior forward Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) her ninth goal of the season. Sophomore Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) assisted Yang's goal.

The lead swelled to 2-1 at 3:19 when Rieman assisted a goal by freshman Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley).

Bethany (6-7-1, 1-3) halved the lead in the closing moments of the first half on a goal by Donovan Reed at 42:12.

Grove City put the match away with two goals in a seven-minute span of the second half. Junior Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored her fourth goal of the season at 73:51. Rieman recorded her career-high third assist on Osterhouse's goal.

Junior Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) closed the scoring at 80:12 with her team-leading 10th goal of the season. Freshman Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) assisted Hurley's goal.

The Wolverines owned a 28-7 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped four shots to preserve the victory.

Grove City is 7-1 at home. Rieman leads the team with eight assists. Stevens has seven assists. This is the first season since 2003 that Grove City has had two players with seven or more assists. Yang currently leads the team with 21 points while Hurley has 20 points.

The Wolverines will visit conference foe Waynesburg Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
