Wolverines blank Bearcats

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Friday afternoon by earning a 7-0 victory over host Saint Vincent.

Grove City stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the first 33 minutes and then added a pair of goals in the second half. Senior Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) recorded a hat trick while freshman Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) scored twice. Freshman Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) and junior Emily Hurley (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) each scored once for the Wolverines, who have won five of their last six matches.

Yang broke a scoreless tie at 8:23 after receiving an assist from sophomore Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled). Stevens then pushed the lead to 2-0 at 11:13 by intercepting a pass and scoring from approximately 15 yards out.

Yang completed her hat trick by scoring twice in a two-minute span. Her unassisted goal at 19:08 stretched the lead to 3-0. Yang tallied Grove City's fourth goal of the afternoon at 21:02. Senior Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) assisted the goal.

Weber closed the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal at 32:43.

Hurley extended the lead to 6-0 at 60:11 after receiving an assist from freshman Ashley Sealander (Madison, Va./Madison County) . Weber finished the scoring at 87:03 by heading in a feed from freshman Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City).

Grove City outshot Saint Vincent 36-9. The Wolverines also had a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. In goal, freshman Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) and junior Arielle Goyzueta (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) combined for the shutout. Yost stopped two shots in 62:40 of action. Goyzueta made four saves over the final 27:20.

Yang leads Grove City with 13 goals this season and Hurley has 11 goals. Rieman has a team-high 10 assists.

The Wolverines will host conference rival Chatham Tuesday at 3 p.m.
