Thomas More nips Grove City in OT
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team concluded the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 overtime setback against visiting Thomas More (14-0-3, 8-0) in Presidents' Athletic Conference at College Field. Thomas More's Sara Harrison broke the 1-1 tie in the first overtime period by scoring at 98:32.
Grove City (11-7, 5-3 PAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first half when senior forward Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) scored her team-leading 16th goal of the season. Sophomore Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) assisted Yang's goal. Rieman leads the Wolverines with 12 assists.
Thomas More tied the match at 55:21 when Courtney Clark scored after a Saint corner kick.
Each team had 14 shots in the match. Grove City had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. All six Wolverine corner kicks came in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped seven shots for Grove City.
Thomas More had yielded just three goals all season prior to Saturday's match. Yang's 16 goals are the most by a Grove City player since Meg Tilley scored 17 in 2003. Tilley also owns the single-season record with 25 goals in 2002. Rieman's 12 assists are the most by a Wolverine in six years. In 2004, Kate Klingensmith tallied a program-best 14 assists.
Grove City has earned the third seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will visit No. 2 Washington & Jefferson Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the conference semifinals.
