Marywood edges Grove City
FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team saw its bid for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament come to an end Saturday evening as No. 6 seed Marywood pulled out a 1-0 win over the second-seeded Wolverines in the ECAC semifinals at Frostburg State University. Marywood will now play Frostburg State in Sunday's championship match.
Marywood broke a scoreless tie at 41:18 as Erin Doyle score an unassisted goal.
For Grove City (12-8-1), freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped six shots. Marywood owned a 10-9 edge in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Wolverines had been gunning for their first-ever appearance in an ECAC Tournament final. Grove City also reached the semifinals in 2007.
Grove City will lose seniors Hannah Hertweck (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia), Laura Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington), Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), Courtney Sicher (Moneta, Va./Franklin County) and Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) to graduation.
