Grove City ties Behrend in shortened match
ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw at Penn State Behrend (4-3-1) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Family First complex. Lightning forced the match to be halted at the 71:18 mark.
Grove City (2-4-1) trailed 1-0 at halftime but forged a tie at 65:13 when sophomore midfielder Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) scored her second goal of the season. Stevens scored on a direct kick after a Behrend foul.
Behrend took a 1-0 lead at 24:18 on a goal by Sam Vasy.
Grove City out-shot the Lions 15-3 and also held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped one shot for the Wolverines.
It is Grove City's first regular season tie match since 1-1 a draw with Baldwin-Wallace September 19, 2009.
Grove City will host Mount Union next Thursday, September 29, at 4 p.m. in non-conference action.
