Grove City blanks Bethany in league opener

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over host Bethany at Bison Stadium.

Grove City (3-4-2, 1-0 PAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first half as junior midfielder Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) scored off a rebound at 41:39.

The Wolverines then sealed the win at 85:08 when sophomore midfielder Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) scored an unassisted goal. Stevens now leads the team with three goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) recorded Grove City's third shutout of the season by stopping four shots. Grove City outshot Bethany (4-4, 0-1 PAC) 13-6. The Wolverines also had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Grove City owns a 15-2-2 all-time record in conference openers. All-time, the Wolverines now have 197 wins in program history.

Grove City will visit Thomas More Wednesday in conference action at 4 p.m.
