Grove City storms past Waynesburg
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 victory over visiting Waynesburg at College Field.
Junior Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) scored twice in the first half to help the Wolverines (4-5-2 overall) grab a 2-0 lead. Rieman scored at 9:33 after receiving a cross from sophomore defender Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham).
The lead grew to 2-0 at 13:45 when Rieman's corner kick bounced into the net untouched. She now has a team-leading four goals this season.
Waynesburg (11-2, 2-1 PAC) cut the lead in half when Courtney Ebersole scored on a penalty kick at 34:16. However, Grove City regained its two-goal lead moments before halftime when senior Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) assisted Osterhouse's goal.
The Wolverines sewed up the win with two goals in the final 18 minutes. Tarolli scored on a breakaway at 72:53 and sophomore Ashley Sealander (Madison, Va./Madison County) closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 87:48.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) earned the win by making one save in 76:50. Freshman Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) made two saves over the final 13:10 of the match.
Grove City held a 32-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Waynesburg entered the match on an 11-game win streak. All-time, Grove City now has 198 wins in program history. The Wolverines are 198-150-27 in 20 years of intercollegiate action.
Grove City visits Thiel Tuesday at 4 p.m. in conference action.
