Grove City earns home match in ECAC Tournament

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer program has advanced to postseason play for the fifth consecutive season as the Wolverines received an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Championship Tournament Monday afternoon.

Grove City (11-9-1) earned the No. 4 seed in the eight-team tournament and will host fifth-seeded Juniata (14-5) in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 2 p.m. at College Field.

Grove City compiled a 7-2-0 record in Presidents' Athletic Conference play this fall and advanced to the conference tournament title match for the second straight year. The Wolverines fell to conference champion Thomas More Friday afternoon, 1-0.

Juniata went 4-2 in Landmark Conference competition this year. The Eagles fell to visiting Drew in the conference tournament semifinals in overtime, 3-2, November 6. Juniata opened the season with seven consecutive wins.

This is Juniata's first trip to the postseason since 2007, when the Eagles visited Grove City in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Tournament. Grove City won that match 3-2.

Grove City advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament in 2012. The Wolverines qualified for the ECAC Tournament in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Overall, the Wolverines will be making their ninth postseason appearance in the last 13 years. Grove City also participated in the 2001 ECAC Tournament. The Wolverines qualified for the NCAA Tournament in both 2002 and 2003.

Stevenson is the top seed and will host No. 8 seed Alvernia in a quarterfinal Wednesday. The Grove City-Juniata winner will play Stevenson or Alvernia in the semifinals Saturday. The other quarterfinals feature No. 3 Lebanon Valley vs. No. 6 Swarthmore and No. 2 McDaniel hosting No. 7 Arcadia. The two semifinal winners will play for the championship Sunday afternoon.

The top seed remaining after the quarterfinals will host the semifinals and finals this weekend.
