Wolverines blank Westminster in regular season finale

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team extended its win streak to five Saturday night as the Wolverines earned a 2-0 victory at Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster at Memorial Field. Grove City concludes the regular season with a 7-2 conference mark and a 10-6-2 overall record. The Wolverines will be the No. 3 seed in next week's conference tournament. Grove City also eliminated Westminster (7-10-1, 5-4 PAC) from the tournament race with the win.

The Wolverines grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 6:43 mark when sophomore Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) scored her sixth goal of the season. Sophomore Michelle Stevens (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) assisted Weber's goal.

Grove City carried its one-goal advantage into the closing moments when senior forward Arielle Goyzueta (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) sealed the victory with a goal at 88:02. The goal -- Goyzueta's first of the season -- came off a corner kick from junior Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled).

Sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) recorded the Wolverines' sixth shutout of the season by making two saves. Grove City owned an 18-5 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 edge in the second half. Grove City had six corner kicks and Westminster had just two.

The Wolverines have now reached double-digits in victories in five straight seasons. Grove City has won at least 10 matches in 10 of the last 12 seasons.

Grove City will visit No. 2 seed Thomas More in the PAC Championship Tournament semifinals Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Crestview Hills, Ky.
