Wolverines edge RIT

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 2-0-1 overall Friday night with a 2-1 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology at John Carroll University's Don Shula Stadium.

Junior forward Becky McManus (Bel Air, Md./Harford Christian) broke a 1-1 tie at 78:17 by scoring her first goal of the season. Senior midfielder Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) assisted McManus' goal.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead at 13:11 when junior forward Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Martellus) recorded her first goal of 2012. Junior forward Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) provided the assist.

RIT (1-2) forged a 1-1 tie at 76:36 on a goal from Shelby Vakiener. RIT out-shot Grove City 15-9 and also had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In goal, sophomore Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped nine shots to earn the win.

The Wolverines are off to their best start since the 2007 team won its first four matches. Grove City will visit John Carroll Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
