Grove City clips B-W in overtime

BEREA, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 5-0-1 overall Saturday afternoon by earning a 1-0 overtime victory at regional rival Baldwin-Wallace in non-conference action at George Finnie Stadium.

Freshman midfielder Abby Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) scored the game-winner at 91:00 after receiving an assist from sophomore midfielder Holly Spofford (Broad Run, Va./Homeschooled). The goal is the first of Mathes' career.

In goal, sophomore Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) recorded her second straight shutout by stopping five shots. Baldwin-Wallace owned an 11-9 edge in shots. Each team had four corner kicks.

At 5-0-1, Grove City is off to its best start since the 2007 team also went 5-0-1 in its first six matches.

Grove City will visit Mount Union Monday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
