Wolverines capture 7th straight
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team earned its seventh straight victory by holding off visiting Penn State Behrend Thursday afternoon, 2-1, in non-conference action at College Field.
Following a scoreless first half, Grove City broke through by scoring twice in an eight-minute span. Senior midfielder Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) scored on a penalty kick at 55:08, giving Grove City the lead.
Junior forward Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) doubled the lead at 62:56 when she scored her third goal of the season. Junior midfielder Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) assisted Tarolli's goal.
Penn State Behrend (1-6) cut the lead in half at 65:46 on Melissa Huff's unassisted goal.
Grove City owned a 19-5 edge in shots, including a 12-2 advantage in the second half. The Wolverines also had a dozen corner kicks while Behrend had three.
In goal, sophomore Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) earned the win by recording one save.
The seven-match win streak is Grove City's longest since the 2009 squad won nine consecutive matches. Grove City owns a 12-0-1 record in its last 13 regular season matches.
Grove City will host regional power Carnegie Mellon next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
