Thomas More nips Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Thomas More Wednesday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field.
Thomas More (10-1, 2-0 PAC) broke a 1-1 tie at the 82:10 mark when Courtney Clark scored the eventual game-winner.
Grove City (8-1-1, 1-1 PAC) forged a 1-1 tie at 22:10 when junior midfielder Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) headed in a pass from sophomore defender Molly Weitzel (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock). Junior defender Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) joined Weitzel in assisting on the goal.
Thomas More grabbed an early 1-0 lead three minutes into the match when Chrissy Sonderman deflected in a free kick.
Grove City outshot the Saints 17-10. Thomas More had five corner kicks and Grove City and three corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped five shots for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines had won eight straight matches prior to Wednesday's setback. Grove City is now 13-1-1 in its last 15 regular-season matches.
Grove City will visit conference foe Waynesburg Friday at 6 p.m.
