Grove City blanks Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 9-1-1 overall and 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by virtue of a 1-0 victory at Waynesburg Friday night at John F. Wiley Stadium.
Junior midfielder Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) broke a scoreless tie at 61:34 with her second goal of the season. It is Cessar's second career game-winning goal.
Grove City outshot Waynesburg (6-6, 2-1 PAC) 13-4, including a 7-1 edge in the second half. The Wolverines recorded three corner kicks and Waynesburg had two.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped four shots to earn the shutout.
Grove City is 14-1-1 in its last 16 regular-season matches. The Wolverines host Thiel Wednesday at 4 p.m. in conference play.
