Wolverines earn 10th win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 10-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over visiting Thiel at College Field.

Grove City broke through at 12:11 when sophomore midfielder Holly Spofford (Broad Run, Va./Homeschooled) scored off a rebound. Spofford recorded her second goal of the season and the first game-winner of her career.

The Wolverines doubled the lead at 21:34 as junior forward Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) scored her fifth goal of the season. Tarolli scored after receiving an assist from junior midfielder Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock).

Grove City sealed the win with a pair of second-half goals. Senior midfielder Bethany Kolodziej (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) collected her third goal of the season at the 56:25 mark. Junior Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) assisted Kolodziej's goal.

Freshman Abby Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 65:26. Mathes also has three goals this year.

Grove City owned a 29-3 edge in shots and a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. Three goalkeepers combined for the shutout. Sophomore Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) played 37 minutes, 44 seconds in goal and made two saves.

Junior Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) played 45:52. Freshman Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) played the final 6:24.

The Wolverines will visit conference foe Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
