W&J edges Grove City in OT
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to homestanding Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Alexandre Stadium.
W&J's Chrissy Marcius scored 4 minutes, 10 seconds into overtime to break a 1-1 tie.
Grove City (10-2-1 overall) forged a 1-1 tie at the 31:40 mark when junior forward Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Weber scored after receiving an assist from sophomore defender Nicole Youngs-Stahl (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford).
W&J (8-5-1, 3-0-1 PAC) scored the initial goal of the match at 27:43 when Kelsey Kraus scored unassisted.
Grove City held a 14-7 edge in shots. W&J had six corner kicks and the Wolverines had two. For Grove City, sophomore goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) recorded one save.
The Wolverines will host conference foe Chatham Tuesday at 4 p.m.
