Carnegie Mellon tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Carnegie Mellon (10-1-2) Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field.

Grove City (11-3-1) broke through at the 77:20 mark when junior forward Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) scored her fourth goal of the 2012 season. Senior midfielder Bethany Kolodziej (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) assisted Bishop's goal.

Carnegie Mellon, the 21st-ranked team in this week's NSCAA Division III poll, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the match. Savina Reed's header just 58 seconds into the match put the Tartans ahead.

Reed also scored at 9:57 to give CMU a 2-0 lead. She completed her hat trick at 66:45, closing the Tartans' scoring.

For Grove City, sophomore goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped three shots. Carnegie Mellon outshot Grove City 13-6 and also had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

CMU is ranked second in the Great Lakes Region by the NCAA. Grove City sits fourth in the NCAA regional rankings.

The Wolverines return to Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at Geneva. The match begins at 11 a.m.
