Wolverines thump Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 12-3-1 overall and 5-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday by earning a 4-0 win at archrival Geneva at the Merriman Complex.

After leading 1-0 at halftime, Grove City broke open the match with three goals in the first seven minutes of the second half. Senior Bethany Kolodziej (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) scored her second goal of the day at 48:57, boosting the lead to 2-0. Junior forward Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) assisted the goal.

The Wolverines quickly pushed the lead to 3-0 at 50:17 when junior midfielder Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) scored off a corner kick from senior midfielder Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled). Ninety seconds later, junior forward Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season after receiving a feed from Rieman.

Kolodziej put Grove City ahead 1-0 with an unassisted goal at 20:20.

Grove City outshot Geneva (7-8-1, 3-4 PAC) 23-10. The Wolverines also held a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped four shots to record Grove City's seventh shutout of the season.

Kolodziej now has five goals this season. She had not scored prior to this season. Rieman leads the team with five assists. Weber and Cessar each have four assists. Weber leads the team with 22 points.

Grove City will visit Saint Vincent Tuesday at 3 p.m. in conference action.
