Wolverines whip Westminster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team concluded the 2012 regular season with a 4-0 home victory over visiting Westminster Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field. The victory gives Grove City (14-3-1, 7-2 PAC) the second seed in next week's conference tournament.

Grove City moved ahead at 27:31 when a Westminster defender inadvertently deflected a free kick from Grove City junior Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) into the net.

The Wolverines doubled the lead nine minutes later when junior forward Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) scored at 36:33. Senior Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) assisted Weber's goal.

Grove City sealed the win with two second-half goals in a 44-second span. Rieman scored at 76:43 after receiving an assist from junior forward Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus). Weber then closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 77:27.

Grove City held a 22-2 edge in shots. The Wolverines also had five corner kicks and Westminster (7-8-5, 2-4-3) had none.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and junior Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word Academy) combined for the shutout. Neither goalkeeper needed to make save in preserving Grove City's ninth shutout of the year.

Rieman moved into second place on Grove City's all-time list with 28 career assists. She has a team-leading six assists this year. Weber leads the team with 11 goals.

Grove City's 14-3-1 regular season record is the program's best since the 2007 team went 15-2-1.

The Wolverines will host either Waynesburg or Washington & Jefferson Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the conference semifinals.
