Wolverines earn draw in finals but drop shootout

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team battled top-seeded Thomas More (19-1-1) to a 0-0, double-overtime draw Saturday afternoon in the finals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at Bank of Kentucky Field.

Grove City's hopes for a conference title and a return to the NCAA Championship Tournament dissipated after the second overtime, however, as Thomas More prevailed 3-2 in a shootout. Officially, the match counts as a draw for both teams but Thomas More earns the automatic invitation to the NCAA Tournament as league champion.

In the shootout, senior midfielder Grace Rieman (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) and junior defender Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) both scored.

Thomas More owned a 20-11 edge in shots, including a 6-0 advantage in overtime. Grove City (15-3-2) had three corner kicks and Thomas More had two.

In goal, sophomore Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped seven shots in recording Grove City's 10th shutout of the season.

Grove City will await a potential postseason invitation Monday.
