Grove City tops Alvernia, 2-1
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team evened its overall record at 1-1 Saturday afternoon by capturing a 2-1 victory over Alvernia in the second day of action at the Gettysburg Cup.
Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead at 31:07 when senior forward Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) scored an unassisted goal. Weber's goal came off a rebound after a corner kick.
The Wolverines doubled the lead at 65:47 when freshman forward Ellen Benbow (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) scored her first collegiate goal. Senior forward Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) assisted Benbow's goal.
Alvernia cut the lead in half at 72:54 on a goal from Laura Mauroschadt.
Grove City outshot Alvernia 13-5. The Wolverines also had six corner kicks while limiting Alvernia to just two.
Senior goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) earned the win after playing the first 45 minutes. She made one save. Junior Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) made one two saves in the second half.
Grove City visits Adrian Friday at 3 p.m. in non-conference action.
