Grove City falls in overtime
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision Wednesday afternoon at Allegheny in non-conference action at the Robertson Complex.
Allegheny (2-3-1) broke a 1-1 tie with 49 seconds remaining in the first overtime when Hannah Zangara scored off a rebound.
Grove City (1-3) trailed 1-0 at halftime but quickly tied the match in the second half. Senior forward Sam Weber (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) headed in her third goal of 2013 at 46:59, tying the match. Senior forward Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) assisted the goal.
Allegheny's Michelle Holcomb opened the scoring at the 15:20 mark.
Allegheny outshot Grove City 19-15 but the Wolverines held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. In goal, senior Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) stopped six shots for Grove City.
Each of Grove City's first four matches has been decided by a 2-1 score. The Wolverines open their home schedule Saturday with a 1 p.m. non-conference match against visiting Baldwin-Wallace at College Field.
