Cessar goal gives Grove City OT win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior midfielder Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) scored 8:53 into overtime Wednesday afternoon, vaulting the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Mount Union (6-2-1) in non-conference action at College Field.

Cessar collected a loose ball in the box and drilled it into the top of the net for her first goal of the season.

Grove City, which improved to 2-0-1 in its last three matches, owned a 20-11 edge in shots. The Wolverines had five shots in overtime while limiting Mount Union to just one. Mount Union had four corner kicks while Grove City had two.

In goal, senior Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) earned the win after playing the final 53:53 of the match. She made four saves. Junior Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) played the first half and made one save in 45 scoreless minutes.

Maria Favorite stopped eight shots for Mount Union.

The Wolverines (3-4-1 overall) will host defending national champion Messiah Saturday at 1 p.m. Messiah eliminated Grove City from the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in the second round.
