Wolverines cruise past Bethany

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team got goals from eight different players as the Wolverines cruised to an 8-1 victory over Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at College Field.

Sophomore Anna Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Molly Weitzel (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) netted their first collegiate goals while juniors Sarah Flenniken (Hudson, Ohio/CVCA) and Micah Richardson (York, Pa./Eastern York) each scored their first goal of the season.

Grove City (6-6-1, 2-0 PAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute as senior Jessica Heck (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) found classmate Becky McManus (Bel Air, Md./Harford Christian) for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. For Heck, it was her second assist on the year.

Senior Chelsea Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) made it a 2-0 game in the 20th minute after carrying the ball down the right side and bending a ball into the upper left corner of the net.

Flenniken got into the action with an unassisted goal of her own in the 27th minute while senior Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) notched her third goal of the year in the 31st minute. Less than a minute later, Flenniken found sophomore Kristin Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Chapelgate Christian), who finished for her second goal of the season.

Richardson made it a 6-0 game going into the half after finishing a feed from Nikki Youngs (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford).

After Bethany's Julie Slezak scored after collecting a ball off a corner, Weitzel answered with a goal in the 70th minute on an assist from senior Leah Wilt (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield). Anna Cessar closed the scoring just 49 seconds later with her unassisted goal.

Senior Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word Academy) earned the win in goal, making one save in just over 30 minutes of action. Junior Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) played just over 32 scoreless minutes in net while sophomore Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) played the final 27 minutes.

Grove City will host Geneva in PAC action at 4:00 p.m.
