Grove City ties Baldwin Wallace

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 double-overtime draw with visiting Baldwin Wallace Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field.

Grove City (1-3-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 34:18 mark when junior Sammie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) scored her first goal of the season. Junior Abby Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) assisted Wild's goal.

Baldwin Wallace (1-4-1) forged a 1-1 tie early in the second half, however, when Kelly Gough scored on a free kick at 48:57.

Each team then had five shots in the two 10-minute overtime periods. For the match, Baldwin Wallace held a 19-17 edge in shots. Grove City owned a 12-6 advantage in corner kicks.

For Grove City, senior goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped nine shots to preserve the tie. Emily Tallmadge made 11 saves for Baldwin Wallace.

Saturday's match started a three-match homestand for the Wolverines, who will host Penn State Behrend Tuesday at 4 p.m.
