No. 5 CMU edges Grove City in OT
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team held fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon scoreless for over 105 minutes Saturday afternoon but the visiting Tartans scored with 4:31 remaining in the second overtime to earn a 1-0 win over Grove City in a non-conference match at College Field.
CMU's Tori Iatarola scored at 105:32 after receiving an assist from Savina Reed, breaking the scoreless tie.
For Grove City (1-5-1), senior goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped 10 shots. Senior defender Molly Weitzel (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) also cleared away two potential scoring opportunities from an open net.
CMU (7-0-0), which entered the match ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA Division III poll, outshot Grove City 27-7. The Tartans also had seven corner kicks and Grove City had one corner.
The Wolverines return to action Wednesday night at Mount Union.
