Grove City blanks Bethany, 2-0

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Friday night by earning a 2-0 victory over host Bethany at Bison Stadium.

Grove City jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:34 into the match when senior midfielder Holly Spofford (Broad Run, Va./Homeschooled) scored an unassisted goal from 10 yards out.

The Wolverines (4-8-1 overall) doubled the lead at the 54:10 mark when junior forward Kristin Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Chapelgate Christian) scored her third goal of the season. Freshman Katherine Kouzelos (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) assisted Thomas' goal.

Senior goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) made one save in 82:30 for Grove City. Junior Nicole Lapia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) sewed up the shutout by playing the final 7:30 in goal.

Grove City held a 20-4 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Wolverines have now won three straight matches.

Grove City will visit conference foe Geneva Wednesday at 5 p.m.
